MU golfer falls short of qualifying for nationals

Missouri women's golfer Julia Potter shot a 3-over 73 in the final round of the NCAA East Regional held at University of Florida’s Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.

The score was not good enough to earn Potter qualification for national competition. But she said she couldn’t complain about the season she had.

“It’s been my best season yet,” she said. “I think my average went down one or two strokes from last year.”

After her final round on Saturday, Potter headed back to Columbia, but even that was a challenge.

When she and her coaches landed in the airport in Charlotte, N.C., they were told they didn’t have enough time to make their connecting plane. But then they saw passengers board it and the plane fly away at the gate right across from the one at which they landed.

Potter said that’s just the way it’s been lately.

“Our golf has been rough and our traveling has been rough,” she said.

Now that the season is over, Potter’s just getting ready to play more tournaments to work on her game.

“I’ll play as many golf tournaments as need be,” said Potter, who noted that one of the biggest amateur golf tournaments is being held in St. Louis in August.
