COLUMBIA — Two teenage males were injured in a car accident early Sunday morning, according to a press release from the Columbia Police Department. The incident occurred at 5:12 a.m. and was reported to police shortly afterward. Victims of the accident include Jake Lee, 17, of Sturgeon, and Marcus Johnson, 18, of Columbia.

The accident occurred after Lee, who was driving a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire, lost control of the vehicle while merging from Business Loop 70 onto Interstate 70 East. The car traveled off the North side of the road into a grass median, struck a ditch and flipped onto its top.

Lee and Johnson were soon transported to University Hospital by ambulance, according to thethe department, and their injuries are believed to be non-life threatening. Police suspect alcohol to be a factor in causing the accident.
