ST. LOUIS — Three days after a massive storm ripped across southern Missouri, thousands of people in the state are still without power.
The State Emergency Management Agency reported about 25,000 outages around the state as of Monday afternoon. That includes 13,600 customers of rural electric cooperates, 9,700 customers of Empire District Electric Co. in the Joplin area and 1,700 customers of AmerenUE, mostly in and around Farmington in eastern Missouri.
Cleanup continues in dozens of southern counties after the storm on Friday that brought winds in excess of 80 mph, several reports of tornadoes, strong rains and flash flooding.
Officially, according to the state, four deaths and 12 injuries are blamed on the storm.
