The men's soccer, women's volleyball and women's basketball teams each added a new recruit.
COLUMBIA — Three Columbia College athletic teams announced the signing of new recruits Wednesday afternoon
The Cougars men’s soccer team announced that Dan Rapp has committed to play for the Cougars this fall.
Rapp, who is from the St. Louis area, played at John F. Kennedy High School in Manchester. He scored eight goals and had five assists as a midfielder during his senior season. Rapp made All-Conference, All-District and All-State teams along with earning honorable mention honors for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s All-Metro team.
“Dan is a committed student-athlete,” coach John Klein said in a news release. “A confident player with strong distribution and defensive abilities, he will compete for time at both midfield and outside back.”
Mike Davis, Columbia College women’s basketball coach, said that Kandace Cross has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Cougars in 2009-10.
Cross, a 5-foot-9 guard from Newport, Ark., played a two-year stint with Moberly Area Community College. As a sophomore, she helped lead the Greyhounds to a 24-7 record and earned the team’s most improved player award. She averaged seven points, three assists and four rebounds per game during the 2008-2009 season.
Columbia College volleyball coach Melinda Wrye-Washington announced that Cate Eckhardt, a junior at the University of Albany in Albany, New York, signed to play for the Cougars.
Eckhardt, a 6-foot outside hitter, is a native of Ottawa, Canada. She will join the Cougars for her senior season after playing the last two at Albany and her freshman season at Martin Methodist College. Last season, she averaged 1.6 kills per game in 76 appearances. At Martin Methodist, she earnedthe TranSouth Conference’s Freshman of the Year award after the Red Hawks posted a 31-7 record and the regular season conference championship.
