KANSAS CITY — A federal judge has refused another attempt to postpone the execution of convicted murderer Dennis Skillicorn.

The Kansas City Star reported on its Web site Tuesday that U.S. District Judge Scott Wright dismissed a suit that sought to have clemency determined by an independent board instead of Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon.

The suit alleged that Nixon would be biased in considering clemency because of his former role as Missouri attorney general.

Skillicorn is scheduled to be put to death May 20 for the 1994 slaying of Richard Drummond. The Excelsior Springs businessman had stopped to help Skillicorn and two other men when their car broke down on Interstate 70 in Callaway County.

The Missouri Supreme Court has denied three other requests to stay the execution of the 49-year-old.
