Columbia man killed in car accident

COLUMBIA — A 24-year-old Columbia man was killed early Saturday after losing control of his car and striking a utility pole, Columbia police said.

Brad L. Irey was driving east on Nifong Boulevard in 2005 Chevy Impala about 5:20 a.m.  He was near Bearfield Road when he lost control of his car, police said. The vehicle became airborne, crossing Bearfield Road and striking a utility pole.

Irey was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He was not wearing a seat belt.
