KANSAS CITY — The executive director of the Airline History Museum in Kansas City has resigned in the wake of criticism about his salary as the facility faces financial struggles.

Paul Sloan gave his resignation letter to the museum's board Saturday. He said it was in the best interest of the organization located at Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport.

Sloan has been criticized for his $120,000 salary, which is more than half of the museum's 2008 revenue.

The board approved the salary in 2008, but the museum has struggled to raise money recently.

Volunteer Larry Brown will serve as interim director.

Board president Bill Skaggs says Sloan did a lot for the museum, but it is best they move on.
