COLUMBIA — “The Air We Breathe” by Andrea Barrett was chosen as the eighth annual One Read book by the Daniel Boone Regional Library.

The Air We Breathe,” is set in 1916 as America prepares to enter World War I. There is an outbreak of tuberculosis in an isolated community in the northern region of New York in the Adirondack Mountains.

Barrett is a National Book Award winner for “Ship Fever” and a Pulitzer Prize finalist for “Servants of the Map.”

A local committee of teachers, librarians and community members voted in April to select Barrett's book over “Unaccustomed Earth” by Jhumpa Lahiri.

The public can check out "The Air We Breathe" from any library in Columbia, Fulton and Ashland or on the bookmobile.  The public should look for book discussions in September after reading the book this summer.
