SPRINGFIELD — Federal grand jurors have indicted a southwest Missouri pharmacist who is accused of diluting a powerful cough syrup and forging prescriptions for a painkiller.
Acting U.S. Attorney Matt J. Whitworth announced in a news release that 54-year-old Jeffrey M. Gregory of Springfield has been charged in a four-count indictment that was returned Friday and unsealed Tuesday.
The charges against the former pharmacist at Family Pharmacy in Nixa include tampering with consumer products and acquiring a controlled substance by fraud.
Gregory is accused of diluting amounts of the cough suppressant Tussionex in early April 2008.
The indictment also alleges that Gregory wrote phony prescriptions for the painkiller Hydrocodone, filled them and kept the drug for himself.
