COLUMBIA —The Best Value Inn in Columbia was robbed early Friday morning, police said.
Columbia Police Department officers responded to a 4 a.m. robbery call at the inn, 1718 N. Providence Road.
A man entered the inn and demanded money from night auditor Amy Atkins, 30, according to a news release. He then struck Atkins with his fist and left on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.
Police describe the suspect as a dark-skinned black man, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, thin build and in his early 20s.
Police Capt. Brad Nelson said robberies seem to occur at hotels because of the proximity to the highway. Nelson also said many hotels have a “network in place to let each other know if suspicious behavior or robberies have occurred in their hotels.” This networking can help other hotels and heighten security, he said.

Kudos on printing a suspect description that is actually factually correct, and useful.
