COLUMBIA — Sunday was the second full day of the 21st annual Columbia Air Show at the Columbia Regional Airport.
Spectators were treated to shows from the Canadian Armed Forces Skyhawk Parachute Team, who descended to the crowd after the Canadian and American national anthems were played.
Another exhibition featured the fighting maneuvers of the A-10 Thunderbolt, which has been used in combat all over the world. The pilot showed off the jet's turning capability as well as how quickly it could pull out of a dive.
The Thunderbolt then flew in formation with a P-38 aircraft from the World War II era for a heritage flight to commemorate Memorial Day.
The event concluded at 3:30 p.m. with a flight by a U.S. Navy F/A-18C Hornet.
Throughout the day, the crowd was able to hear various announcers pay tribute to the fallen servicemen and women from Missouri. An announcer read the names of more than 200 servicemen and women who fell in conflicts from World War I to Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Memorial Day festivities will continue at 10 a.m. Monday with the Salute to Veterans Parade in downtown Columbia.
