JEFFERSON CITY (AP) — Gov. Jay Nixon has asked for more federal help to repair infrastructure damage in 46 Missouri counties hit by severe storms earlier this month.

Nixon had already asked the federal government for a disaster declaration.

Nixon's office said damage to public property and infrastructure from storms earlier this month exceeded $48.7 million in the 46 counties. That includes damage to public utilities and electric cooperatives, estimated at more than $37 million.

Power was finally restored during Memorial Day weekend.

Nixon said the aid would help reimburse local governments for damaged public property, infrastructure, public utilities and for emergency protective actions.
