St. Louis congressman speaks on behalf of condemned inmate

ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis congressman and the parents of condemned prisoner Reggie Clemons are asking the Missouri attorney general to make good on a campaign pledge to review his murder case.

At a news conference Monday, U.S. Rep. William Lacy Clay, Clemons' parents and others noted that Attorney General Chris Koster pledged during his campaign to look into the case if elected. Koster's office did not return a phone call seeking comment.

Clemons is scheduled to die June 17 for the 1991 murders of two young sisters who authorities say were thrown from the abandoned Chain of Rocks Bridge in St. Louis.

Supporters say Clemons and three other young men were wrongly convicted and had no role in the sisters' deaths. One of them, Marlin Gray, was executed in 2005.
