A severe thunderstorm watch has been posted for Boone County until 8 p.m. Tuesday. In addition, a flash flood watch remains in effect from Tuesday evening through Wednesday afternoon.

Boone County was on the western edge of the severe thunderstorm watch, which extended east into Illinois. The watch included Jefferson City, but not Boonville or Moberly.

At 2:10 p.m., National Weather Service radar indicated a line of strong thunderstorms extending from Kansas City through Carrollton to near Kirksville.

The weather service was calling for storms to increase in number and overspread the area tonight as a cold front moves slowly southeast across the region. The weather service said that some of the storms could produce damaging winds and large hail along with heavy rain.

In an afternoon news release, Zim Schwartze, interim Columbia/Boone County emergency management director, recommended that residents "take time now to review their emergency plans” in advance of the the possible severe weather.
