COLUMBIA — A black Chevy S-10 crashed into a high-voltage electric pole at 12:32 p.m. Tuesday outside of Deluxe Inn on eastbound Business Loop 70. The pole was split in two, and power was briefly out, said Columbia Water and Light spokeswoman Connie Kacprowicz .
PAR Electrical Contractors dispatched four trucks to the scene, and Water and Light employees were also onsite.
The power to the electric transmission lines was de-energized so linemen could replace the transmission pole and repair the three 69,000 volt lines and three 13,800 volt lines.
Kacprowicz said 20 to 30 customers experienced a power outage from 2 to 3:20 p.m., when power was restored.
Water and Light and PAR workers will replace the pole and transmission line by 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Eastbound Business Loop was closed earlier today by the Columbia Police Department, but the street reopened at about 5 p.m.
