'Painting Missouri' creators to present book in Jefferson City

JEFFERSON CITY — Artist Billy "Billyo" O’Donnell and journalist Karen Glines, who worked together to create “Painting Missouri: The Counties en Plein Air,” will be in Jefferson City to present and discuss their book.  

The presentation begins at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Kirkpatrick State Information Building, 600 W. Main St., in Jefferson City. Books will also be available for purchase.

O’Donnell spent seven years traveling across Missouri, painting lush impressionistic scenes in all 114 counties. His works are known for being painted “en plein air,” or on location.

There are farmhouses and barns, Lover's Leap in Hannibal, a view of St. Louis from the roof of the Cathedral Basilica, Greenfield Opera House in Dade County, Bollinger Mill in Cape Girardeau County and views of state parks.

Glines, whose essays appear throughout the book, spent years researching Missouri counties in order to find unusual facts. She often spoke with residents and discovered interesting stories and historical information.
