JEFFERSON CITY — The parents of condemned prisoner Reginald Clemons are pleading with Gov. Jay Nixon to spare his life.
Clemons is scheduled to be executed June 17 for the deaths of sisters Julie and Robin Kerry. Prosecutors say Clemons was part of a group that shoved the girls off the abandoned Chain of Rocks Bridge in St. Louis into the Mississippi River in April 1991.
Clemons' mother and stepfather say their son went to the bridge that night but that Clemons and his friends did not kill the girls.
Clemons' mother, Vera Thomas, delivered a letter Thursday to Nixon's office begging the governor to grant her son clemency. Nixon was not present. But Vera and Reynolds Thomas did meet with Nixon's staff.
