COLUMBIA — The Parks and Recreation Department will celebrate National Trails Day this Saturday with a 5K run/walk, a 10K bike ride and a nature expo.
Events begin at 9 a.m. and are free and open to the public, according to a news release from the Parks and Recreation Department. This is the fifth year Columbia has honored National Trails Day.
Activities will take place at the Stadium Boulevard access point of the MKT Trail, 800 S. Stadium Blvd.
The Missouri Department of Conservation, Master Naturalists, Rock Bridge Memorial State Park and the Chouteau Grotto have teamed up with Parks and Recreation to host the event.
The nature expo will consist of displays and tables educating participants about Columbia’s parks and trails and the importance of preservation. Several tables will provide activities for children. Other tables will provide information about stream restoration, native plants and wildlife habitat.
The American Hiking Association established National Trails Day and aims to promote and celebrate the benefits of trails.
