COLUMBIA – The voting deadline has been extended until noon on Monday for a contest that could net Phoenix Programs thousands of dollars in prizes.

The Columbia not-for-profit agency submitted an essay to the Show Your Impact contest for a chance to win $5,000 in cash and $25,000 in software. The contest is sponsored Microsoft and TechSoup.

Deborah Beste, executive director of Phoenix Programs Inc., said the contest was important to her organization because a business needs to have technology to be efficient and to maximize resources.

“Our most important job is spending time with patients, and if we have technology there is no overlap and no waste," Beste said. "We can keep and guard the counselors’ time."

Phoenix Programs has provided treatment for individuals and families with addictions since 1974, according to its Web site.

Winners of the contest will be announced June 26.
