COLUMBIA — A health care worker has been diagnosed with an active case of tuberculosis, University of Missouri Health Care officials announced Monday afternoon.
The hospital has begun taking steps to notify people who may have been exposed to the worker and testing individuals, primarily co-workers and patients, who are either at high risk for contracting the disease or had prolonged exposure.
The worker's illness was revealed last week during routine monitoring. The test was administered by MU Health Care's infection control department.
The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services were immediately notified and are aiding MU Health Care with follow-up procedures.
Hospital officials would not say what sort of work the infected employee did for the hospital.
