With Wednesday's Associated Press story of Congress abandoning President Obama's clean energy jobs campaign promises, we see that the oil and coal lobbyists have been successful in severely weakening the big energy bill in Congress. Although the bill retains good parts, it now will not require any more clean energy beyond what is already in the works. Wind and solar create more than twice as many jobs as coal and oil, so this bill won't create the new jobs that are desperately needed in our community and across the nation.
Even worse, the bill repeals integral parts of the Clean Air Act, preventing Obama from cracking down on dirty power plants. For the sake of our economy and our planet, we need our representatives in Congress to support our president and fight to fix the energy bill. Congress is voting in less than 10 days.
