COLUMBIA — An MU student was robbed Saturday night outside the Hitt Street parking garage, according to a news release from the MU Police Department.
The female victim reported that she had been walking on a path at the southwest corner of the garage at about 9:45 p.m. when two male suspects attacked her.
According to the news release, the victim heard a male voice yell something behind her, and she turned to see one man running toward her. The man punched her in the face, and she fell to the ground. A second man ran up and began to punch her in the back of the head.
One man pulled her purse off her shoulder, and the men then ran southeast toward the Professional Building on the MU campus, the release states. The victim called police moments later.
The woman suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment, the release states.
Both suspects were described as black males between 16 and 18 years old and between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall. One man had short hair and was wearing a black hat, dark blue or black jeans and a dark blue shirt. The other man had braids or dreadlocks and was wearing a orange and red button-down shirt with a design on the stomach area.
This is the second robbery at a downtown parking garage in the past two weeks. On June 6, a man was attacked and robbed by a group of teens in the parking garage at Tenth and Cherry streets.
The MU Police Department is investigating the incident and will look at any possible video footage from the garage, Capt. Brian Weimer said.
Additional information is not available at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
