JEFFERSON CITY — Missourians looking to buy insurance will be able to check for complaints on a state database.
The Missouri Department of Insurance has compiled more than 10,000 complaints against more than 600 insurers since 2006. In addition to creating the searchable list of customer troubles, the insurance agency has graded the companies based on the number of complaints.
Under the complaint ranking, companies with a score of 100 are average, those with a lower score have a fewer-than-average number of complaints and those with a higher score have more complaints.
Insurance Department Director John Huff said consumers should check into potential insurers, and the state index would help that research.
