JEFFERSON CITY — The Missouri Republican Party has accused Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Robin Carnahan of not disclosing her husband's business.
The Republican Party said Wednesday it filed ethics complaints claiming Antolinez International Trade was wrongly left off Carnahan's financial disclosure statements.
That company name is registered to Juan Carlos Antolinez, who married Carnahan in 2007. Complaints were filed with the Missouri Ethics Commission and the Senate Select Committee on Ethics.
Lloyd Smith, GOP executive director, said disclosure is important for transparency.
Carnahan spokesman Tony Wyche said the business name was reserved, but the firm never was formed, so there's no income to report. He called the complaints "silly."
Carnahan is Missouri's secretary of state and is seeking to replace retiring Sen. Kit Bond. The other announced candidate is Republican Congressman Roy Blunt.
