JEFFERSON CITY — The attorney general's office has asked the Missouri State Highway Patrol to look into whether some sex offenders are violating parole by using an Internet social networking site.

Attorney General Chris Koster said Thursday he has forwarded the patrol the names of 373 Missourians who have been removed from MySpace because their profiles appeared to match those of registered sex offenders.

Koster wants the patrol to see if any of the people are violating parole by using a computer or attempting to contact minors.

The attorney general's office has now forwarded more than 1,800 names to the patrol since it began getting the identities of potential sex offenders removed from social networking sites more than a year ago.
