COLUMBIA — Columbia residents are invited to the Activity and Recreation Center on Monday for an open house on plans for an extension of Scott Boulevard and Interstate 70.

The firm for the project — Crawford, Bunte, Brammeier Traffic and Transportation Engineers — will be present to answer residents' questions and take feedback regarding possible routes. The open house will be from 4 to 8 p.m.

Under the proposed plan, Scott Boulevard would be extended north from its terminus at West Broadway and connect with the future interchange at I-70. The roadway would continue north of the highway to connect to the existing road network.

The open house is part of the project’s second step, which involves location and environmental studies and is set to run through the spring of 2010. The focus is on finding solutions through engineering, brainstorming and dialogue, a newsletter about the study states. A similar open house for city officials and other stakeholders was held June 16.

There is not yet funding for the project and therefore actual construction of any possible extensions is still several years out.
