JEFFERSON CITY — A Missouri trial judge says a 2007 domestic violence law requires the Missouri Board of Probation and Parole to reconsider the cases of three women sentenced to life in prison.
Cole County Judge Richard Callahan on Tuesday overruled the decision to deny parole to Roberta Borden, Vicky Williams and Ruby Jamerson. Callahan gave the parole board 90 days to reconsider the cases and explain its decision.
The domestic violence law makes eligible for parole those sentenced to life in prison for killing their spouse or domestic partner if they had been a victim of physical or sexual domestic violence. The trial or guilty plea must have come before 1991.
An attorney for the women could not be reached. A spokeswoman for the Department of Corrections had no immediate comment.
