KANSAS CITY — A sleepwalking episode has led to a stabbing in Kansas City.

The Kansas City Star reported on its Web site Wednesday that the 24-year-old victim suffered a stab wound to his face and shoulder.

Police said the victim's girlfriend awoke around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday to find her boyfriend urinating in the closet. He was intoxicated when he had arrived at his apartment several hours earlier.

Police said the man had a history of sleepwalking and ignored his girlfriend's repeated efforts to wake him up.

He pushed her out of the way as he walked toward the kitchen, and she reportedly became scared that he might hit her.

Police said she grabbed a knife and held it up as he approached. He sustained injuries that are believed to be non-life threatening.
