COLUMBIA — The sounds of Summerfest 2009 are returning to the streets of Columbia on Wednesday with a free show featuring local band the Bel Airs.
As of 11:30 a.m., workers were setting up the stage on Ninth Street between Walnut Street and Broadway. All Summerfest shows have been held at the same north-facing location.
The Bel Airs, a blues band, will play with Roomful of Blues at tonight's concert. Gates for the outdoor show open at 6:30 p.m, said Bob Reeves of MSA Sound and Lighting. MSA oversees the light and sound systems for all Summerfest 2009 shows.
The show's organizers hope they will attract fans despite the heat.
"We expect anywhere from 1,000 to 3,000 people, depending on the heat," Reeves said.
Summerfest 2009 began with Willie Nelson on May 20. The next Summerfest concert after tonight's is July 29 and will feature the Wallflowers, according to The Blue Note's Web site.

Hope they are ready for the pop up thunderstorms like we had last night.

And if you do not like the weather just wait an hour or so as it will change when you least expect it to.
