CLAYTON — The deaths of two St. Louis County residents are being blamed on the heat wave that has settled over much of the central United States for the past 10 days.

A county health official said a 75-year-old man was found dead in his Maplewood home on Thursday. The room temperature was 96 degrees and an air conditioner was not working.

Also Thursday, a 62-year-old woman from Hillsdale was found dead after neighbors reported she had not been seen for three days. Her home did not have an air conditioner.

The names of both victims were not released.

The county has seen 41 heat-related illnesses since June 21.
