JEFFERSON CITY — The sponsor of an initiative limiting affirmative action programs says he plans to submit a new version after a court ruled against his first try.
A Missouri judge said last Friday that Secretary of State Robin Carnahan should have rejected the proposal because of a technical flaw in its wording.
Initiative sponsor Tim Asher said Monday that he plans to fix the flaw and turn in a new version to Carnahan's office. Doing so would require Carnahan to again approve a ballot summary for the proposal.
Cole County Judge Richard Callahan ruled that the first summary prepared by Carnahan was insufficient and unfair.
Sponsors hope to get a constitutional amendment restricting affirmative action on Missouri's 2010 ballot.
