LETTER: Walmart a wonderful supporter of local charities

I want to commend Walmart Stores Inc. for its financial support of local charities.  Meals on Wheels of Columbia has been fortunate to receive support from two local Walmart stores for several years. This year was no exception, as we received $1,000 from the Broadway store and the Conley Road store.  At the presentation at the Broadway store, there were three other local groups also receiving $1,000 checks.  Thank you for giving back, Walmart associates!

For the first time this year, the Walmart Foundation awarded state grants. Meals on Wheels of Columbia, thanks to the quick action of the community involvement coordinator at the Grindstone Parkway store, was able to apply before the deadline and was awarded $25,000 from the Walmart Foundation in Bentonville, Ark.  This money will be used to provide hot noon lunches, cold box suppers and frozen weekend meals to clients with no income who are unable to pay for meals.

By its continued support, Walmart is making our community better in so many ways and deserves our gratitude and thanks.
