BIEHLE — Rudy Buchheit, the founder of a small chain of stores in Missouri and Illinois, has died.
Buchheit died Monday at age 96. A cause of death was not disclosed. A funeral Mass is to be celebrated Thursday at St. Maurus Catholic Church in the southeast Missouri town of Biehle.
Buchheit opened his first store in 1934. The chain now includes stores in Perryville, Herculaneum and Jackson in Missouri, and Jacksonville, Sparta and Greenville in Illinois.
The company has also expanded into agricultural and trucking operations in Missouri, Illinois and Pennsylvania.
Buchheit is survived by 11 children, 34 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
