Chris Nicastro will serve as Missouri's first female education commissioner, officials announced Thursday.
Nicastro, the Hazelwood School District superintendent, is to begin her duties Aug. 1 with an annual salary of $185,400.
She replaces Commissioner Kent King, who died Jan. 7.
Bert Schulte of Columbia, who was also a finalist for the position, has served as interim commissioner.

Missouri needs to trim their state budget and the state commissioner gets paid a mind-boggling salary of $185,400 a year. Oh my, I am sure many state officials could trim their salaries by 10 or 15% and still have plenty of money to live on and truly help the state with some of their budget issues.
