St. Louis Symphony claims successful season

ST. LOUIS — The Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra says its just-ended season was successful in key areas including attendance and ticket sales.

The nation's second-oldest orchestra, founded in 1880, reported increases of 15 percent in revenues and 7.8 percent in total attendance.

The symphony also reported labor stability, with a new three-year collective bargaining agreement with musicians announced last month — a full year ahead of schedule. In the past, poor negotiations had led to musician walkouts.

Symphony officials hope to double their audience as part of a 10-year plan by offering more diverse music.
