Police: 911 call led to suspect in Cole Camp shootings

COLE CAMP — A 911 call made on the night a Cole Camp family was shot to death led investigators to a relative from Kansas who is accused in the fatal shootings.

A probable cause statement says Benton County central dispatch received the emergency call at 10:16 p.m. on June 7, but the operator couldn't understand what was being said before the connection was broken. When dispatchers called the number back, it went straight to voice mail.

Two days later, the bodies of 64-year-old Donnie Leutjen, 61-year-old Sharon Leutjen and their grandaughter, 15-year-old Taron Luetjen, were found at their home.

Investigators say a later analysis of the 911 recording revealed discussions in the background. Robert Blurton of Garnett, Kan., is charged with three counts of first-degree murder.
