St. Louis civic leaders concerned about violence

ST. LOUIS  — Civic leaders in St. Louis are saying enough is enough, and the violence has to stop.

In just the past two days, police responded to more than a half-dozen shootings, two of them fatal. On Thursday night, politicians, police and members of the public attended a "Stop the Violence" town hall meeting organized by state Rep. Jamilah Nasheed, a Democrat from the city.

Nasheed intentionally hosted the meeting at a funeral home to send a message about where those who engage in violent acts will end up.

St. Louis police have reported 61 homicides so far this year, down slightly from last year. The city often ranks high on per capita murder rate lists.
