Missouri housing agency's ethics panel approves new rules

JEFFERSON CITY — The ethics committee for a Missouri housing commission has approved new rules in response to a state audit that raised concerns about conflicts of interest.

The Missouri Housing Development Commission uses tax credits and tax-free bonds to help finance the construction of affordable houses and apartments. Last month, a state audit raised concerns about several ethics issues, including commissioners with business ties to developers.

The agency's ethics committee on Tuesday approved new rules that require more disclosure of potential conflicts of interest. The rules also seek to prevent top officials from leaving the agency and immediately working for developers.

A final draft is to be submitted to the full commission at the board's July 31 meeting.
