LETTER: Missourians should support the Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts

By Dr. Thomas and Judith McKenney, Columbia
July 8, 2009 | 12:49 p.m. CDT

Columbia, the city with a magnificent historic theater (Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts), is once again given the opportunity and responsibility to show its support for the arts. Columbia is already known for its support of sports, alternative modes of transportation and environmental green spaces, but is it a city with a "heart for the arts?" We believe that it is!

The historic Missouri Theatre came about in 1970 because of a dream and vision by Hugo and Lucy Vianello and was then promoted by the commitment and resourcefulness of David White III. Now the talented Kanani May has stepped up to help pursue that dream, but the dream is threatened by monetary needs.

This is the chance for you and I, the people of Columbia and mid-Missouri, to be a vital part of that dream! All we have to do is reinvest in the theater. Any monetary amount may be sent to the Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts, in care of Kanani May, Interim Executive Director, 203 S. Ninth Street, Columbia, MO 65201.
