COLUMBIA — The city received permission from the Missouri Department of Transportation on Thursday to install red-light cameras at two local intersections, but will not meet its original goal of having them in place by the end of the week.
Permission was needed because MoDOT maintains the two intersections at Stadium Boulevard and Worley Street and at Broadway and Providence Road.
Assistant City Manager Tony St. Romaine said it usually takes 60 to 90 days for MoDOT to review plans that would affect intersections, but these plans were approved in nine days.
St. Romaine said he thinks the cameras will be in place by the middle or end of next week. There will still be a 30-day warning period for red-light violators once the cameras are installed.
