TARKIO — An airplane pilot was killed while practicing aerial acrobatics for an air show in northwest Missouri.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the accident happened Friday afternoon when an Edge 540 aircraft crashed in a bean field near U.S. 136 and State Route O near Tarkio.
The Edge 540 is a propeller-driven plane often used for acrobatic flying.
The 36-year-old female pilot, whose name wasn't released, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the accident.
The Wing Nuts Flying Circus Fly-In is being held Saturday at the Gould Peterson Memorial Airport in Tarkio.
B.J. Scott, a spokesman for the group, said the event would go on as scheduled.
