COLUMBIA — A Kansas man is going on trial a second time on charges of shooting an MU student to death outside a Columbia duplex.
Jury selection for the trial of 26-year-old Taron Crawford of Kansas City, Kan., began Tuesday in western Missouri's Johnson County. The jury is to be brought to Boone County for the trial.
Crawford is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the November 2003 killing of Charley Blondis. The 20-year-old victim was a sophomore at the university when he was shot during a disturbance outside a house party.
Crawford was convicted on the same charges in 2004 and sentenced to 25 years in prison. But a judge later threw out the conviction, finding that Crawford's lawyer was ineffective.
