ST. LOUIS — A century-old Protestant denomination has decided to move next year's spiritual gathering to St. Louis from its headquarters and roots in Memphis, Tenn.
The St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission announced Thursday that the Church of God in Christ will hold its annual Holy Convocation in St. Louis from Nov. 8-16, 2010.
St. Louis tourism officials said the church's more than 50,000 members will use an estimated 20,875 room nights during their stay. They said on average, the church generates more than $35 million during its seven-day event.
The 2010 gathering will mark the first time in the church's 102-year history that members won't meet in Memphis, its founding city. Church leaders said St. Louis offers more room.
