ST. LOUIS — The Humane Society of Missouri is asking pet lovers to help it find permanent homes for the many animals in its care.
The St. Louis-based humane group said its shelters are packed with great, adoptable dogs, cats and kittens. It's urging the public to adopt some this weekend, and has discounted adoption fees.
The Humane Society said the number of animals surrendered to shelters always peaks in the summer, but this year has been especially challenging.
Hundreds of kittens, adult cats and dogs have been turned in to the Humane Society of Missouri in just the past few weeks.
The Humane Society said caring for more than 400 dogs rescued from last week's multistate dogfighting raid has stretched its staff and resources.
Its shelters are open seven days a week.
