COLUMBIA — The Boone County Fire Protection District and an ambulance from Cooper County responded at 10 a.m. Saturday to a multi-vehicle accident on the Interstate 70 westbound bridge over the Missouri River.

Two motorcycles and a tractor-trailer collided on the bridge, according to Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Doug Westhoff. A University Hospital ambulance and a Cooper County ambulance transported at least two patients to the University Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, he said.

Emergency units closed the right lane on the bridge, backing up traffic for nearly five miles. At 11:20 a.m., the lane was still closed.
