Former school board member Rosie Tippin dies

COLUMBIA — Former Columbia School Board member Rosie Tippin died Monday night after a long illness. The Missourian received the following statement from the Tippin family upon her passing:

“While our mother wore many hats – daughter, wife, mother, aunt, cousin, etc. – perhaps her greatest legacy is that of an educator and an advocate for higher education. For to teach is to hold a mirror in your hands and see the future; to touch lives forever.  As a teacher and administrator in schools in St. Louis Jefferson City and Columbia, as well as a member of the Columbia School Board, she touched countless lives. Our mother fought her illness with the same vigor and determination she displayed in her attempt to bridge the achievement gap and ensure that students in Columbia Public Schools received the best education possible. While her passing is sad for us, we ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time.” — Keener A. Tippin II on behalf of the Tippin family.
