PrintCOLUMBIA — The Public Communications Resource Advisory Committee decided on its final recommendations for communications funding during Thursday's meeting.
The committee voted to recommend that the $50,000 the city has to fund public communications projects be given to the four organizations that submitted the best applications: First Chance for Children, Disabilities Media Inc., Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Missouri and Comprehensive Human Services-The Shelter.
This would mean that the four remaining applicants — Columbia Special Business District, Rainbow House Emergency Children's Shelter, Heart of Missouri United Way and KCOU 88.1 FM — would receive no funding.
Committee chair Ewell Lawson said the viability of the projects was important in the committee's decision.
"If we left the other four in, they would be funded at such a level that the committee didn't think they were viable," Lawson said.
The City Council will hear the committee's recommendation during the August 17 council meeting. The committee has yet to decide the exact amount of funding it will recommend each organization receives.
