COLUMBIA – A man was hospitalized Friday morning after a two-vehicle collision in southeast Columbia, authorities said.
Authorities responded to a traffic accident at 11:27 a.m. at the corner of Highway WW and Rangeline Road. A pickup truck collided with a car, and the driver of the latter vehicle was injured, Trooper Brad Germann of the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
- Carl's Towing is recovering a 2002 Chevy 1500 from an accident site at the intersection of Highway WW and Rangeline Road on Friday in Columbia. The driver of the Chevy was going northbound on Rangeline before it collided with 1984 Ford Crown Victoria traveling westbound on Highway WW.
The injured man, whose name authorities could not immediately provide, was extricated from his vehicle and taken to University Hospital with serious injuries, Germann said. Truck driver Barry Barnes, 32, of Columbia was not injured.
The 1984 Ford Crown Victoria LTD was westbound on Highway WW and the 2002 Chevy 1500 truck was northbound on Rangeline.
“This intersection is notorious for this type of collision,” said Jim Deason, a recovery operator for Carl’s Towing who arrived at the accident around noon. He said the intersection sees five or six accidents a year.
Barnes received a citation for failure to yield. He was wearing a seat belt, while the injured man was not, Germann said. Airbags were not deployed in either vehicle. Both were insured.
Alcohol is not suspected in the crash, Germann said.

Were any tools, other then human strength, used to extricate?
If this unidentified man had some legal problems in another state, would we first extricate and then extradite?
Is all this too excruciating or exacerbating?
