COLUMBIA — Two Columbia cab drivers were robbed early Saturday morning in northeast Columbia by a man who implied he was armed with a knife, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department.
The first robbery, of an Economy Cab driver, was reported at about 5:30 a.m. at McKee Street and Rice Road. The second robbery involved a Tiger Taxi driver and was reported at about 7:45 a.m. near McKee Street and Orchard Lane, the release states. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money from the drivers, and fled from the locations on foot, the release states.
About an hour after the second robbery was reported, Columbia police located and arrested 35-year-old Jefferson City resident Kennen A. McMiller on suspicion of two counts of second-degree robbery, the release states.
A witness in the area of the second robbery had observed someone matching the perpetrator's description and alerted officers to his possible whereabouts. Officers then found McMiller hiding in a bedroom of a nearby residence, the release states. Evidence in the room linked McMiller to both robberies, the release states.
