Band talent show enlivens final day of Boone County Fair

COLUMBIA — The audience filled the multipurpose room at the Boone County Fair on Sunday for the last time this year.

Band sets lined the front of the room as each of the seven bands waited their turn to compete. Each band was given 10 minutes to perform, and most did two songs. Some performed original material, while others did their own renditions of famous songs.

Emily Huang, lead singer of the band Sun After Set, inserted a clip of the theme song from the TV show "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and encouraged the audience to sing along if they knew the words.

The audience, eager to help their favorite bands, screamed and cheered in between sets. Some beat on the chairs and stomped their feet to help boost the noise level. One audience member screamed out, "We're not going out without a fight!" when the band Innocent Crowd performed.

Brian Wintergreen and the Legends of Tinseltown captured the audience with their own rendition of the Taylor Swift song "Love Story."

As in the adult talent show, the bands were judged by the audience and formal judges. There were two prizes: $700 for first place and $300 for second place.

Innocent Crowd band members Drake Detwiler, Kyle Pudenz, Brad Cunningham, Toby Runyon and Parker Siddall performed two original pieces and won first place.

The Bubbas band members Patrick Henry, Christian Henry and Jason Matthews performed two pieces, and two of the trio played multiple instruments. Henry played the drums, harmonica and guitar, and Matthews played the trumpet and keyboard. Their performance won second place in the competition.

Sunday's band talent show concluded the three talent shows featured at the fair this year.
